This morning, I remembered how sacred it is to breathe with poetry—not just write it.
There are poems that speak, and then there are poems that listen. My Partner in Breath is one of the latter. It came to me not as a declaration, but as a companion—quiet, present, and full of light.
This piece is not about a person, a memory, or an event. It is about presence itself. The kind of presence that poetry brings when the world grows loud, or when the silence needs a name. It is a thank-you to poetry as a living force, as the one who has never left my side, even when I could not find the words.
I wrote it slowly, reverently, and with all the tenderness I could hold.
If you’ve ever felt that you are not alone when writing…
If you’ve ever found your own heartbeat mirrored in a stanza…
If you’ve ever trusted silence to finish the line…
Then perhaps this poem will speak to you as it spoke to me.
