“When Shadows Claim the Flesh” was not imagined. It was endured.
I did not craft this piece with detachment. I breathed it — in the ache of mornings where each motion was a battle, in the silence where no word of comfort could reach me, and in the stillness where even God seemed quiet.
This poem speaks of that shadow — the one that does not visit for drama, but dwells in the body. The shadow that transforms each step into a trial, each smile into a mask.
It is not about despair.
It is about truth — and what remains when suffering strips the rest away.
Here, the soul is not glorified above the body. It suffers with it.
But the final verses are not defeat. They are declaration.
“So here I stand, though barely whole,
A testament to what survives—
The undefeated human soul
That in the darkest hour still strives.”
This is not metaphor. This is memory.
This is resilience not as a brand, but as breath.
This is poetry not to impress, but to endure.
I know I am not the only one walking through this valley.
