Between the Wing and Ground
A Poem About the Space Between
Some days, life feels like that quiet pause between inhale and exhale — the moment where nothing moves, yet everything matters. Between the Wing and Ground came to me in one of those still hours, when memory and hope seemed to circle each other like tired birds unsure where to land. I kept seeing a sparrow returning to a nest long gone, its wings beating against the emptiness of what used to be home. That image stayed with me — maybe because we all do that sometimes. We return, in thought or heart, to places that no longer exist the way they did. We hover between what we’ve lost and what we’re afraid to build next. This poem isn’t about despair; it’s about that sacred in-between — the place where healing begins, not because answers arrive, but because we finally stop running long enough to listen. What the Poem Holds
- The sparrow’s instinct to rebuild what’s gone.
- The mind’s endless questioning — what if, what then, what now?
- The monuments we build from memory, even as the tide waits to wash them away.
- The quiet moment of acceptance: “a pause between the heartbeat and the hum.”
Maybe this poem finds you there too — in that strange, weightless place between what was and what could be. If it does, take heart. Even suspension is movement. Even stillness is alive.
