I have little to say of poetry, save this:

The poet is bound by his verse, with only the divine reigning supreme above him!

Star-Laced Promises

Star-Laced Promises

By Al Konda

There are promises made because the moment is beautiful.

And there are promises made because the moment is fragile.

Star-Laced Promises belongs to the second kind.

It begins under a vast sky — constellations leaning, night domed overhead — but this is not a poem intoxicated by the stars. It is a poem about choosing someone while the sky watches, indifferent.

“I lashed my pulse to promises unseen.”

That line is not romantic flourish. It is a decision. A fastening. A risk. To lash something is to bind it so it cannot drift when the wind changes.

Love, here, is not floating. It is tied.

What moves me most in this poem is not the cosmic imagery — it is the line about ordinary days:

“it roots itself in ordinary days
and learns to stay through all we cannot lift.”

That is where love either survives or fails.

Not in grand declarations.

Not in starlit vows.

But in the slow accumulation of mornings that do not feel cinematic.

The poem knows that storms come. That doubt is not theatrical. That fatigue can be more dangerous than betrayal.

And yet it does not grow anxious. It grows steady.

There is a moment where the body interrupts the sky:

“when your mouth took mine…”

It is not indulgent. It is grounding. Breath becomes confirmation. Reason does not collapse — it holds. The poem insists that love is not the opposite of thought. It is the deepening of it.

By the end, the sky — once so vast — becomes something almost ordinary:

“the heavens are just rooms we travel through.”

That line carries maturity. The cosmos no longer overwhelms. It witnesses. What matters is no longer spectacle, but constancy.

The final star is not above.

It is chosen.

And perhaps that is the quiet truth the poem carries:

Love does not dazzle because it shines.

It endures because it decides.
